Do you know why there is a need for a Personal Jeweller
There has always been a valid reason why I call myself a “Personal Jeweller”. I care passionately about each client I meet and I have a creative drive to create and deliver stunning jewellery.
I love sharing stories with you and want to let you know about what happened to me last week when I was genuinely tested about how much I, as a personal jeweller truly cares.
The story started last Wednesday when I received a call from my workshop “a disaster had happened”
A ring I carefully created for a client had collapsed whist having the diamonds set. There was no time to discover why this had happened it was all about the client, timing and working fast but precise to create a brand new ring.
I called and explained, the client was very sympathetic to my plight, during our conversation the pressure was increased when he informed me that we was going on holiday the following Thursday to propose and it goes without saying he needed the ring. Now the pressure was on.
I immediately sent the cad file off for printing arranged for them to send it directly to the caster who agreed to cast on the following Tuesday and arranged with the workshop that they would have to complete the ring in one day.
Neither the riots or the fact that the Lovely Royal Mail failed to deliver the ring before 9am could stop me. I am proud to say I finalized the ring today and my client left excited for his trip along with the ring ready to propose. What an amazing and intense feeling all round.
In my humble opinion, that is why there is an art to being a “Personal Jeweller” and a need for this kind of service in the market place today.
I would love to hear from you, if you have ideas about a design, come say hello
A new trend is emerging
Did you know most clients who visit the Designer shops along Bond Street like the designs on offer but not the inflated prices.
Clients also want to take a design and with a little extra inspiration create their own unique ring. For me this is exciting time as I love a challenge that allows me to push the boundaries when it comes to creativity.
Art Deco rings have of course been around forever in Jewellers along Burlington Arcade and in Specialist jewellers around the country but clearly over the past twelve month I have noticed many more clients are asking for that style.
The trend is presenting itself to the more modern and steering away from the ever traditional single stone ring but at the same time demanding a design that is classic and timeless. Creativity comes alive with this style, offering a ring with a centre diamond surrounded by small diamonds can be designed to suit not only a client’s budget but also size of finger.
I had a client last week who loved the style but because his Fiancée to be had a very small finger size he wanted the centre stone to be set lower than the sample I showed him and a little more personal in its design, something unique to him.
This of course set my mind racing. How do I create something new without losing the style of the original, I had many unique ideas but the question here was” would they work?”
Well I am pleased to say that after a few hours staring at a blank screen I came up with the Art Deco Split the client absolutely loved it when we met yesterday for the wax viewing, I am pleased to say it has now gone into production. What a magic moment for all of us.

Latest creation, simplicity is the key
A quite simple design in many way, the client firstly wanted a bespoke ring and a tension style so that the diamond could really be shown off to all its glory. All the ones he had seen in the shops were the same with sharp straight edges. I explained to him that the ring we would design together would be based on a tension set ring, I say based because a true tension set ring is a diamond set between two edge which we can not make in this country because of the alloys that we use in our metals to allow them to pass the British Hallmark. After our initial discussions we came up with a unique style of tension ring with the most beautiful subtle curves.
We are going through the final designs this week, cant wait to share more with you
Recent Works by David Law April 2011
I am Currently designing a three stone diamond engagement ring for a couple with an added WOW factor. I first met the Doctor from Oxford before Christmas who later came back with his fiancee to be who I have not met at this time works in the same hospital as a Doctor.
He brought me a printed picture from a e commerce site to view, the metal that I am working with is platinum as for the design I love to see diamonds and the art styled curves making this a very open creation offering the maximum sparkle the diamonds have to offer with beautiful curvature. This will not only feel good on the finger but will be very pleasing to the eye.
I will keep you updated on my progress and the final design concept
