My name’s David Law. I’m the founder and owner of David Law Your Personal Jeweller in London’s Hatton Garden. I am proud to have spent my working life as a jewellery designer, diamond mounter and goldsmith.
On this page, you’ll discover what led me to the wonderful world of jewellery making and the key milestones in my professional journey.
How did you first get into the jewellery business?
I’ve had a creative eye since my school days and was introduced to a Hatton Garden jeweller by my grandfather. The meeting went well and the rest is history!
What training do you have?
I started out as an apprentice which was a real eye-opener. Over the course of my five-year apprenticeship, I cut my teeth in all areas of jewellery making. However, one of my main takeaways from those years was to treat all clients with respect and provide the same level of service, irrespective of whether the budget is £2,500 or £250,000.
What did you do after your apprenticeship?
This was the start of an exciting time for me. I joined a company specialising in a diverse range of jewellery named Colorado. From there, I entered a partnership and formed a new company called Futuro which gave me my first taste of creating contemporary jewellery. We sold our jewellery to a range of high-end jewellers around the UK and internationally, and we were delighted to participate in a collaboration with De Beers to mark the millennium celebrations.
When did you start your current business?
I established David Law Your Personal Jeweller in 2009. I had been thinking of a change in direction for a while and was keen to go back to my roots of designing and making original pieces of jewellery for private clients looking for high-quality, unique items.
Where are you based?
I meet with clients at locations across London, at dates and times to suit them. My design studio is based in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside and my workshop remains in Hatton Garden – this is where all my jewellery is made.
Why is your business named Your Personal Jeweller?
Over the years, I've come across countless businesses promoting “personal service” in their marketing materials.
In reality, I think that many businesses fall short in this area. But, when you commission a piece from David Law Your Personal Jeweller, I truly believe that the level of personal service you'll receive is second to none.
What really differentiates me from other jewellery makers is that everything I make is completely bespoke and because of this I'm not under pressure to steer clients towards certain pieces of jewellery in an attempt to shift stock. My business doesn’t carry stock and each piece is individually-crafted with materials ordered specifically for my clients – right down to their final choice of stones.
