ETHICAL SOURCING

Master Jeweller David Law — 40 years’ Expertise

Beautiful jewellery should be created responsibly. I source diamonds, gemstones and precious metals with care, transparency and respect for people and the planet.

Conflict-Free Diamond Policy

I maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards conflict diamonds. All natural diamonds I supply are certified conflict-free under the Kimberley Process and adhere to UK and international law.
That’s the baseline. In practice, I go further by prioritising reputable, long-standing suppliers with rigorous due diligence practices and transparent provenance documentation.

What this means for you

  • Written assurances that the stones are conflict-free
  • Reputable suppliers and a documented chain of custody, wherever available
  • Guidance that’s impartial and tailored to your priorities

Traceable & Canadian Diamonds

If you’d like additional provenance assurance, I can source Canadian-origin diamonds or stones from suppliers that provide mine-to-market documentation. Canadian diamonds typically include mine-of-origin details alongside their grading report. They’re valued for their robust labour and environmental standards, as well as the clarity of their paperwork.

  • Certification: Supplied with an independent grading report (e.g., GIA) and origin documentation where available
  • Provenance: Region/mine information and laser inscriptions, where applicable

Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds with the same crystal structure and sparkle as natural stones. They’re grown in controlled environments and typically offer significant cost savings at a given size/quality.

  • Certification: Independently graded (e.g., GIA or IGI) with the same 4Cs
  • Ethics & environment: Lab-grown stones avoid mining impacts; energy use and carbon footprint vary by producer. I can advise on disclosures and any third-party reports supplied by growers.
  • Value: Excellent for maximising size/quality within a budget

Precious Metals: Fairtrade and Recycled Gold

I can craft your piece in Certified Fairtrade Gold or recycled gold on request.

  • Fairtrade Gold: Supports small-scale miners with fair pricing, safer working conditions and community investment
  • Recycled Gold: Re-enters the supply chain from reclaimed sources, reducing demand for newly mined metal
  • Hallmarking: Every piece is hallmarked by a UK Assay Office to verify metal fineness

Resale markets differ. Natural diamonds have a more established secondary market, though prices can fluctuate. Lab-grown diamonds offer strong upfront value (more size/quality for the budget), but resale channels are still developing and typically achieve lower prices. My view: diamond jewellery—natural or lab-grown—should be chosen for love and personal meaning, not as an investment.
