Bespoke Jewellery Design Process | Design With David Law

Designing bespoke jewellery since 1984

Discover how to design bespoke jewellery with David Law — from your first ideas through to a finished piece, guided by clarity, experience, and precision.
This structured, one-to-one process allows you to see, refine, and perfect your jewellery before it is handcrafted in London’s Hatton Garden.

A Personal Approach to Jewellery Design

For me, jewellery design begins with listening.

Every commission starts with a conversation — understanding your ideas, your aesthetic, and what matters most to you. From there, I refine and translate those thoughts into designs that feel balanced, considered, and timeless.

You remain at the centre of every decision.

Working with me means direct access to the jeweller responsible for your piece.
There are no intermediaries, no showroom sales environments, and no pressure — only dialogue, refinement, and a measured approach that builds clarity and confidence at every stage.

The Bespoke Jewellery Experience

Creating jewellery should feel clear, considered, and subtly inspiring.

This isn’t about choosing something already defined. It’s about creating something completely your own — guided by clarity, experience, and care.

Whether you start with a clear vision or simply the feeling that you want something different, the experience is designed to build your confidence at every stage. It is a collaborative process — one that unfolds through conversation, refinement, and careful decision-making.

Each commission follows four distinct stages:

Inspire. Design. Create. Cherish.

Inspire

Every commission begins with a private consultation.

Here, we explore ideas, proportions, stones, and possibilities. Some clients arrive with a clear vision; others begin with only a feeling. For those seeking inspiration, I present a carefully curated mood board of exclusive original designs, refined 3D concepts, and wearable wax prototypes.

Each path is equally welcome.

Together, we shape a considered design brief — balancing aesthetics, craftsmanship, and investment with clarity and care.

Design

This is where your ideas become tangible.

I develop multiple 3D design concepts based on our discussions, allowing you to explore different interpretations before making a decision. Using advanced 3D modelling and printing, you can see, refine, and even wear a prototype of your piece before it is crafted.

This stage removes uncertainty.
Every proportion, angle, and setting can be assessed calmly and adjusted precisely.

Confidence replaces guesswork.

Create

Once your design and stone selection are finalised, your jewellery is handcrafted in my Hatton Garden workshop.

Traditional bench skills remain at the heart of the process — shaping metal by hand, setting stones with precision, and meticulously finishing every detail.

Each stage is personally overseen to ensure the final piece reflects the standards established at the beginning.

Cherish

The final reveal is more than a presentation.

It is the moment when design, craftsmanship, and personal meaning converge. A piece created exclusively for you — to be worn, lived with, and ultimately passed on.

Jewellery should endure both physically and emotionally.
That is always the intention.

Questions You May Have

Not at all. Some clients arrive with clear ideas, while others start with only a feeling. The process is designed to guide you from wherever you are, providing clarity and inspiration.

Most commissions typically take between three and six weeks from finalising the design to completion, depending on complexity.

Your investment is discussed early in the process, allowing each design and stone option to be guided with clarity — ensuring the final piece reflects both your vision and the agreed-upon details

You are welcome to meet in my Marylebone studio, or we can work together remotely via video consultation. I also offer a travelling service across London and the Home Counties.
