From your first meeting with David, he will guide you through a tailored, personal design experience, from initial design concepts to 3D visualisation, wearable wax models, and final handcrafting. You will explore, see, and refine your jewellery before it is made, and you do not need a fixed idea to begin.

The bespoke jewellery design process turns those starting points into something tangible. David develops your ideas through a carefully curated selection of design concepts, helping you explore different possibilities before deciding which direction feels right.

The Bespoke Jewellery Experience

STEP ONE

INSPIRE

Every commission begins with a complimentary discovery conversation with David. This is an opportunity to explore what you would like to create, who the jewellery is for, how it will be worn, and the ideas or inspiration you already have.

If you are unsure where to begin, David can present a range of design directions through a curated mood board featuring past commissions and wearable models, showing proportions, settings, diamonds, coloured gemstones, and precious metals to help you decide what appeals to you.

Together, these conversations form the basis for your designs.

STEP TWO

DESIGN

This is where your ideas become something you can actually see. David creates a selection of individual 3D design concepts based on your conversations, allowing you to explore different interpretations, proportions, and details.

You will view your designs from every angle and refine them until you are satisfied with the overall appearance. Where appropriate, David individually selects diamonds and coloured gemstones so you can consider them alongside the design, rather than in isolation.

STEP THREE

See It. Wear It. Perfect It.

A computer image can show extraordinary detail, but nothing replaces experiencing a design in person.

Using high-resolution 3D printing, David will produce wearable wax models of your jewellery before manufacture begins. This lets you see its proportions on your hand, in your ear, around your neck, or on your wrist, feel how it wears, and consider details that are hard to judge from an image alone. If something doesn't feel quite right, you can still change it.

STEP FOUR

CREATE

Manufacture begins only after you’ve agreed on the design, proportions, materials, and stones.

Your jewellery is then handcrafted in David's Hatton Garden workshop, combining modern design technology with traditional jewellery-making and stone-setting techniques.

David personally oversees the commission throughout, ensuring the piece remains faithful to everything you approved during the design process.

STEP FIVE

THE REVEAL

The final stage is seeing your bespoke jewellery piece for the first time.

What began as a conversation, a photograph, an heirloom, a sketch, or simply an idea has become a piece created exclusively for you.

How long does the bespoke jewellery design process take?

Most bespoke commissions take about three to four weeks from agreeing the design to completion, though more complex pieces may take a little longer. The design stage is flexible and depends on how quickly you would like to explore and refine your ideas. If you are working towards a particular date, let David know at the first conversation so he can advise on what is possible.

Where will I meet David to design my jewellery?

You can meet David privately at his Marylebone design studio in central London, where appointments are relaxed and one-to-one. David can also work with clients remotely via Zoom, sharing designs digitally and, where appropriate, sending wearable wax models or through his travelling jeweller service across London and the Home Counties

Do I need to know exactly what I want before meeting David?

Not at all. Some clients arrive with photographs, sketches, or a very clear idea, while others simply know they want something unique. David can introduce different design directions, settings, proportions, diamonds, gemstones and precious metals to help develop your ideas into a design that feels right for you.

What happens if I don't like the first designs?

The initial designs are a starting point, not a final decision. David creates several concepts for you to explore and can refine proportions, settings and individual details as the design develops. 3D visualisations and wearable wax models let you see and experience the jewellery before manufacturing begins, so you can make changes before anything is handcrafted.

How much does it cost to start the bespoke design process?

A £250 design deposit allows David to begin developing your individual design concepts and wearable models. The deposit is credited towards your finished jewellery when you proceed. Before starting, David will discuss your ideas and provide guidance on the likely overall cost.
