Can Jewellery Really Be Recreated From a Photo?
A photograph may be all that remains of a treasured piece of jewellery, but it can also be the beginning of recreating it.
David can recreate jewellery from a photograph or an impression, transforming it into a physical prototype using ZBrush and 3D software, so you can see, wear, and experience the piece before it is traditionally handcrafted.
FROM A PHOTOGRAPH TO A THREE-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN
Whether something precious has been lost or stolen and all that remains is a 2D image or sketch of the original piece, David can use it to bring your jewellery back to life.
Perhaps you have a family crest that you would like to use as the starting point for something completely new to mark a special birthday or anniversary.
Or you may have one remaining earring or cufflink sitting in a drawer that you love and would like David to recreate as a match so you can wear it again.
How Do I Get Started Recreating My Jewellery?
You don't need technical drawings or detailed measurements to get started. Send David the photographs, sketches or information you have, and he will first determine what can realistically be recreated from them.
During your complimentary discovery call, you will discuss the proportions of the new piece, the precious metals to be used, and any diamonds or gemstones to be added, along with a breakdown of costs, so you can decide how you would like to move forward
How Is a Photograph Turned Into a Piece of Jewellery?
Once David has established what can be recreated and you're happy to proceed with a commission, your photograph, sketch or original piece becomes the reference for developing a detailed three-dimensional design.
Using ZBrush, your image is converted into a three-dimensional mesh and imported into David's CAD design software, where the proportions and finer details can be refined with you before producing a physical prototype that brings the piece off the screen and into your hands.
See the Recreation Before It Is Handcrafted
Your physical prototype allows you to see the recreated piece at full scale, examine its proportions, and, where appropriate, try it on before the final piece is made
Any final refinements can be made at this stage before the approved design is handcrafted in David's Hatton Garden workshop using your chosen precious metals, diamonds or gemstones if required.
The original may have started as nothing more than a photograph. Seeing something so special brought back to life is the moment that makes the recreation complete.
David can help preserve the design of the jewellery you still have.
Recreating jewellery doesn't have to wait until something is lost or stolen.
You can digitally record an important or irreplaceable piece and develop it into a detailed 3D CAD design and STL file to keep, preserving its proportions and design information should you ever need to recreate it.
The digital record may also provide useful supporting information about your jewellery. If you insure the piece, you can ask your insurer whether retaining this additional documentation would be beneficial.
