Shoppers still seek comfort in treating themselves to luxuries

According to the Times, sales of luxury and premium goods continue to shine even during the economic down turn.

This was one of a number of findings picked up during a survey  carried out by Bain.

In my opinion, one of the reasons for this is very clear and stares you in the face. When talking money and the climate today people are more cautious when they spend, leaving the consumer looking at that one special purchase that they will enjoy, create a feel good factor and above all be in the price range that suits.

This tends to go against the grain where multiple smaller items were once the trend which ultimately could cost them more than that one bespoke unique piece.

Another important factor is that clients want to feel important, cared for and offered an experience when purchasing which some of the luxury and premium brand retailers offer.

So back to the report, Bain continues to report that the very clients we are talking about and seek these services are in fact not those that would be ordinarily be described as rich.

As a personal jeweller I can relate to this report because many of my clients receive all of the above and more without paying the big brand prices.

Everything is an experience, it’s just which one do you choose, get in touch and sample the above and more. Get the feel good factor from the pocket to the jewellery.

Gold Rise Spurs Jewelers to Switch Metals, Add Gems

Bloomberg’s Mark Barton reports from London and interviews Knightsbridge based bespoke jeweller David Law where the increase in gold prices has prompted jewelers to use other metals and add gems to keep prices down.

Jewellery retailers have reported that over the last month, consumers are more conscious when shopping for bespoke pieces and more unique items.

David Law comments “This is something I have been talking about a lot over the past couple of years, but retailers may well have missed the point. It is not caution that is turning consumers to bespoke jewellery, allow me to explain why.

High street and online stores lose the mystic and beauty of that unique piece because the art of being able to speak to an expert, share ideas and innovations as been lost, the passion and desire for that ultimate design and the right price is key. High Street stores have the pressure of commodity on price and price alone,

David Law continues “The exciting world of 3D, bespoke jewellery has become affordable for everyone whatever the budget allowing the shopper to create their own unique piece in a relaxed environment, taking time to make this moment special. It’s all about personal service something that has disappeared in the retail market but certainly not with me.”

London Jewellery week started on Monday

Did you know about it ?

The concept behind the London Jewellery week is to promote the latest designs and designers in much the same way as the London fashion week, but the two are not treated in the same way.

The London Fashion week gets a huge amount of press coverage where as the London Jewellery week has seen it’s coverage fall each since it’s conception.

During the London Fashion week new designs and the latest colours are revealed and then people wait for the more affordable mainstream copies to appear in the everyday shops, this does not often happen in the jewellery trade.

Although of course the designer labels in both sectors will charge a hefty premium for their brand and work, jewellery is a different kettle of fish altogether to get to the final look there are many more permutations to take into consideration such as metals, and the stones used. As an example you could pick a purple stone that could be a precious amethyst or a crystal from a far the stones might look the same but there would be a huge difference in the price.

Precious jewellery is bought in the main from clients who are about to celebrate a special occasion, the market for people who just want to buy themselves something special is much smaller and Niche, mainly because of the price. With the introduction of 3D designing this has now evolved and that special design has now become affordable which is ground breaking but something that will not be heard loud this week which is a great shame.

It can be amazing reading into the lives of a celebrity or two, these celebs killed two birds with one stone by getting the wedding and baby planning started at the same time.  Last month Natalie Portman, 29, and Benjamin Millepied, 33, announced they were engaged .  .  .  and expecting.  But the dancing duo, who met on the set of The Black Swan (2010), have not really set a new trend.

But David Law,  London Jeweller comments “There is a special WOW factor to this popular combo, the joy of your wedding and all that comes with it and the special moment of the arrival of tiny feet.

So would it not be great to mark that special moment with a gift that will last a life time. My First Diamond is collection of jewellery where you can choose not only the design but also your own diamond allowing you to create your own unique gift even personalize it further with a special message, what a great way to start a new life”.
